Wednesday 18th September saw us return to Tankersley Park Golf Club for another of our charity golf days.

Once again, guest golfers were joined by a group of ex-professional footballers, managers, referees and other well-known faces.

Walkings Brilliant Charity Golf Day

Our teams gathered at 11 am for breakfast and coffee in anticipation of a brilliant, sunshine-filled golf day. Whilst our golfers enjoyed their breakfast and coffee, they learned which celebrity they would be joined by to make up their team of four. Scorecards were handed out, rules were made clear and our golfers made their way to their designated starting hole to wait for the hooter to sound.

The format for the day was a Texas Scramble with a shotgun start, with 26 teams of 4 taking part. Birdies were aplenty, with cheers ringing around the course throughout the day. As well as the overall scramble, there were prizes for nearest pins and longest drives up for grabs, plus photo opportunities with our celebs and their teams, and a well-stocked drinks cart doing the rounds providing refreshments.

Following the golf there was a two-course meal of pie, chips and peas (which some say was the best pie they’ve ever had) followed by cheesecake with ice cream. We would like to thank Tankersley Park Golf Club, not only for the excellent meal but the breakfast beforehand and for the brilliant hospitality they offered as always.

After the meal and during several well-deserved beverages, charity ambassador Mark Crossley spoke briefly about the work we are doing and the causes we have helped. We were treated to entertainment in the form of comedians Dr Kevin Jones and Austin Knight, who both brought the house down with laughter, supported by a top-class compere performance from the brilliant Pete Emmett.

Then followed the raffle and memorabilia auction, with some hard to find signed pieces as well as football hospitality and much more, all to raise additional funds for the charities we support. Finally, the serious stuff and the announcement of the results!

We would like to extend our thanks to our sponsors Supreme CBD, Rapid Response Telecoms, Smarttrax and Howcroft Group, without whom we couldn’t have made this day happen.

On the day we raised approximately £5,200 for our charities, as well as supporting local businesses. A fantastic day was had by all and we look forward to the next one.
